#21 Mardi Gras Wrasse

Endangered

This is an interesting little fish. They are all born as female. Their colouring is not quite as exciting, though still pretty. They are a salmon pink with a white stripe and a black spot. At some point one or even a few fish (kind of determined by how many there are) will start to turn into a male. They have an intermediate phase, and though it doesn't usually happen, supposedly at that point they could change their mind and go back to being a female. Then there is this, what is called the terminal phase where they are male and that is what they stay. They are from the Gulf of Mexico, and the biggest threats to their survival is the invasive lionfish, human activity causing things like oil spills, and the loss of coral.

My husband and kids are at the drive-in movie theater sort of near us. I would have loved to go, but I had to finish the fish for today. I knew that I wouldn't be able to finish it if I went. The drive-in was the best place to go for a date night when we had a brand new baby. It was nice, we could keep the windows closed, I could feed him and nobody around us was bothered at all. It does end up being a late night, but the baby would sleep in his car seat and it was much cheaper than going to a regular movie theater. I liked the relaxed sort of atmosphere and it was nice to be able to spend time with each other without having to worry about finding someone to watch the baby. The movie probably starts around 8:30 or 9:00, and then they have to drive home. I was going to make Thai coconut soup for dinner, but they have to get in line around 6:00 in order to even make it in. That will be tomorrow, so I'm home with the dogs and just need to figure out what I'm going to eat. I find it so much harder to want to cook when it is just me. If I was single I'd either be twice the size I am now because I'd constantly snack and do take-out, or I'd be half my size because I couldn't be bothered to eat most of the time. When I was in an apartment before getting married, my roommate was able to buy a lot of food, but I didn't want to use it since I couldn't afford the food. I mostly lived on rice and beans.
